$0.20 Slot Spin Wins Online Jackpot Worth $1.94 Million on Hard Rock Bet

One fortunate Hard Rock Bet player turned a typical Tuesday into a multimillion-dollar milestone by turning a meager $0.20 jackpot fee into an incredible $1.94 million windfall.

Casinos and online gaming platforms, including sportsbooks, love to show and tout big wins. However, the wager is frequently significant, such as a $30 slot machine spin. However, one fortunate player at the Hard Rock Bet online casino in New Jersey was wagering modest amounts this week when she won a prize that would change her life.

Deborah, an online gambler, was playing the slot machine Bag the Swag: Hold & Win on Monday, May 11 at 5:27 p.m. ET. The title comes from Octoplay, a business-to-business developer of online casino games.

Deborah from South Plainfield was using the game's $1 spins. However, when the Mega tier was activated, she was also taking a 20 cent per spin risk on the jackpot function. Deborah's 20-cent wager ultimately won the Mega Jackpot on the progressive online slot machine. $1,942,272.47 was her prize.

On the Hard Rock Bet iGaming platform, Deborah was the first player from New Jersey to ever win the Mega Jackpot.

“This is exactly the kind of moment our jackpot is built to deliver. Seeing Deborah become our first-ever Mega Jackpot winner in New Jersey is incredibly exciting for everyone at Hard Rock Bet,” said Rich Criado, VP of casino at Hard Rock Digital.

“Wins like this reinforce that every spin truly has the potential to change a player’s day — or even their life,” Criado added.

There are more losers than winners

Naturally, Hard Rock Bet and the other internet casinos in New Jersey are not involved in charitable endeavors.

According to data from the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement (DGE), gross income, or the amount of bets that the online casinos kept, totaled $782.8 million in the first quarter of 2026, meaning that the iGaming operators win far more than they lose.

After FanDuel ($179.6M), DraftKings ($142.1M), BetMGM ($99.3M), and Caesars Palace ($55.8M), Hard Rock Bet ranked fifth in New Jersey with a three-month GGR of $51.9M.

A sports bettor recently won over $1 million on Hard Rock Bet's online app, according to the company. However, that $1.98 million victory was the result of a six-leg $30.11 parlay in which all six MLB players hit home runs on the same day.

Through March of this year, New Jersey oddsmakers received $268.4 million from wagerers. Nearly $263 million, or nearly all of the income, came from internet wagers.

Online Jackpot Income Tax

Deborah in New Jersey will not be able to keep her entire $1,942,272.47. Deborah's home state has one of the highest personal income tax rates in the country at 10.75%, so she will have to pay both federal and state income taxes on the victory.

Deborah will only be able to deduct 90% of her gambling losses from her winnings unless the current federal tax law is changed.

The gambling deduction was reduced from 100% to 90% by the Republicans' One Big Beautiful Bill, but Congress is still working on legislation to reinstate the loss deduction.
